Discussions concerning sexual activity, contraceptive use, and reproductive plans should be a routine part of primary medical care. Women with childbearing potential should understand contraception options and also the potential for teratogenic effects, particularly in the first trimester, of regimens containing efavirenz.

Given the assumption that at least half of all pregnancies are unintended, use of nevirapine in women with childbearing potential or protease inhibitor-containing regimens or an integrase inhibitor-containing regimen may be preferred. This would be especially true of women who are trying to get pregnant or who do not consistently and effectively use contraception.

Community Consensus Statement on Access to HIV Treatment and its Use for Prevention

Together, we can make it happen

We can end HIV soon if people have equal access to HIV drugs as treatment and as PrEP, and have free choice over whether to take them.

Launched today, the Community Consensus Statement is a basic set of principles aimed at making sure that happens.

The Community Consensus Statement is a joint initiative of AVAC, EATG, MSMGF, GNP+, HIV i-Base, the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, ITPC and NAM/aidsmap
