  • 8 Advocates Share Their Top HIV Policy Issues at AIDSWatch 2019

    On April 1, over 500 people living with HIV and their allies from 40 states across the U.S. headed to Capitol Hill for AIDSWatch. There, they passionately advocated about issues affecting their communities, both locally and on a national level. As Bill McColl, vice president for policy and advocacy for AIDS United, said, "This is the first AIDSWatch since the government announced that they are going to end the AIDS epidemic. The community is ready to do it, and we have to take Congress to task about ending the epidemic." Here, we feature a handful of those advocates (a random sample, though not selected scientifically) and the concerns most significant to them.

  • Berlin to host 11th IAS Conference on HIV Science in 2021

    Berlin is the host city of the 11th IAS Conference on HIV Science (IAS 2021), the International AIDS Society (IAS) announced today. The city hosted the 9th International AIDS Conference in 1993, but this is the first time that it will host the IAS Conference on HIV Science.

  • IAS 2019 plenary line-up focuses on cutting-edge issues

    The International AIDS Society (IAS) has announced the plenary presentations that will lead the 10th IAS Conference on HIV Science (IAS 2019), which will take place in Mexico City, Mexico, on 21-24 July 2019. IAS 2019 is the largest open scientific conference on HIV and is expected to bring together more than 6,000 participants from more than 140 countries.

  • The Global HIV Community is Getting a Divorce

    The breaking point has been reached. After months of activism that has failed to convince the International AIDS Society (IAS) to withdraw their “AIDS2020” conference from San Francisco, activists have now announced an alternative conference, “HIV2020,” to be held in Mexico City at the same time as AIDS2020.

  • HIV Activists Announce Alternative 2020 Conference in Mexico City

    An alliance of key population-led networks, networks of people living with HIV, treatment activists, and supporters has formed to organize an international community-led conference titled HIV2020: Community Reclaiming the Global Response. The event is scheduled to take place in Mexico City, July 6-8 of 2020, and will run concurrently with the 2020 International AIDS Conference which is happening in the United States. The HIV2020 Alliance has decided to organize the community-led event to provide a safe alternative for individuals who cannot or will not attend AIDS2020 due to discriminatory U.S. immigration and travel policies directed to people from Muslim, African, Caribbean and Latin American countries, people who use drugs, sex workers, and transgender people.

    An alliance of global key population-led networks, networks of people living with HIV, treatment activists, and our supporters, has formed to organize an alternative international community-led event. Titled, HIV2020: Community Reclaiming the Global Response, the event is scheduled to take place in Mexico City, July 6-8, 2020, and will run concurrently with the first half of the international AIDS conference. The HIV2020 alliance has decided to organize the community-led event to provide a safe alternative for individuals who cannot or will not enter the U.S. in 2020 or who cannot afford to attend AIDS2020. It will also offer new opportunities to reaffirm the leading role communities play in the global HIV response.
