Slight decline in hepatitis C diagnoses in Europe

European surveillance data show a 10% decrease in newly reported hepatitis C cases between 2016 and 2017. However, with more than 31,000 recorded cases in 2017, diagnoses remain at a high level in the European Union and European Economic Area (EU/EEA). In addition, variation in national testing practices and widespread under-reporting of diagnosed cases do not provide an accurate picture of the true epidemiological burden.

Expert working group recommends bold action to eliminate hepatitis C in Scotland; now we need a national elimination strategy

A new report published by Health Protection Scotland sets out national recommendations for improvements to case finding and access to care which would accelerate Scotland’s efforts to eliminate hepatitis C. The Hepatitis C Trust calls on the Scottish Government to set out a clear timeline and process for developing and releasing a national elimination strategy for hepatitis C, in order to facilitate implementation of the recommendations contained in the recent Health Protection Scotland report.

Hepatitis C Prevalent in Less Than 1% of US Population

Epidemiologists found a 0.93% overall prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection cases in the US while using a novel assessment method in a new study. The report, which included undiagnosed cases among its prevalence rates, found that approximately half of the cases occurred in just 9 states, including 5 in Appalachia.
