Russian 'gay propaganda' law ruled discriminatory by European court

A Russian law that bans gay “propaganda” encourages homophobia and discrimination, the European court of human rights has ruled, in a sharply worded rebuke to the Kremlin. The state has been ordered to pay damages totalling €43,000 (£37,800) plus costs and interest within three months.

Taiwan becomes first country in Asia to rule in favour of same-sex marriage

Taiwan has become the first Asian country to order its parliament to legalise same-sex marriage. The highest court in the land has ruled that Article 972 of the Civil Code, which states that marriage is between a man and a woman, is unconstitutional.

India to ban discrimination against people with HIV/AIDS

India has passed a landmark bill which aims to ensure equal rights for those living with HIV/AIDS. The HIV and AIDS (Prevention and Control) Bill, passed by the country's parliament on Tuesday, will make it illegal to discriminate against people living with and affected by HIV. It is the first of its kind in south Asia, and will make India the largest country in the world to ban this kind of discrimination.

The Board of the Global Network of People Living with HIV (GNP+) is pleased to welcome Dr. Laurel Sprague as our new Executive Director. Dr. Sprague is a passionate social justice activist and a widely respected educator and researcher who has extensively championed the human rights and needs of key populations and people living with HIV. She has served as the regional coordinator for the North American Affiliate of GNP+ and as a GNP+ Board Member, and has provided technical support to PLHIV networks worldwide on the People Living with HIV Stigma Index research and analysis for nearly a decade.

Launched today, the Community Consensus Statement is a basic set of principles aimed at making sure that happens.
