Sexually transmitted infections and chlamydia screening in England, 2013

Despite a small decrease compared to 2012, there were approximately 450,000 STI diagnoses made in England in 2013. Genital chlamydial infection was the most commonly diagnosed STI, accounting for 47% of diagnoses. New diagnoses of gonorrhoea continued the sharp rise seen in recent years, exceeding 29,000 cases in 2013.

The U.S. syphilis rate in 2013 was 5.3 cases per 100,000 people, more than twice the all-time low of 2.1 cases per 100,000 people in 2000, the CDC reported. The majority of patients with the disease, which is treatable, were men who had sex with other men.

The Court found that Mr Golding understood both that he had the infection and how it is transmitted, and by not preventing transmission – or disclosing his condition thereby allowing the complainant to make an informed decision whether or not she wanted to risk acquiring herpes – was guilty of reckless grievous bodily harm under Section 20 of the Offences Against The Person Act 1861.
