Coming soon: news from IAS 2019

Published: 05 July 2019

The 10th International AIDS Society conference (IAS 2019) is being held in Mexico City from 21 to 24 July 2019.

NAM is delighted to have been selected as an official scientific media partner for the conference by the International AIDS Society.

We’ll be reporting on key research presented at the conference, publishing news online and sending out five summary bulletins by email, four during the week of the conference and one the following week. The bulletins will be available in English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. If you already receive NAM’s regular email bulletins, you will automatically receive our conference bulletins. If you don’t, make sure you sign up so you don’t miss out.

All our conference news stories and bulletins will be published on our IAS 2019 webpages.

The International AIDS Society conference

Over 6000 people are expected to attend IAS 2019, making it one of the largest conferences on HIV science.

"What’s really exciting about IAS 2019 is that in addition to the strong science, the programme presenters embody the diversity of our research community. IAS 2019 will celebrate new voices of young investigators and leading women in science. This programme will provide important new insights, ask probing questions and challenge the status quo." Anton Pozniak, IAS 2019 Co-Chair and Scientific Programme Committee member

This year’s conference will feature research on:

  • A crucial update to the data on the potential link between dolutegravir and neural tube birth defects.
  • Real-world studies of PrEP implementation around the world, especially how long people stay on PrEP.
  • Simplification of HIV treatment regimens: fewer drugs, fewer weekly doses and injectable drugs.
  • Care and services for transgender women.
  • Advances towards both a prevention vaccine and long-term remission of HIV.
  • Studies of a novel antiretroviral, MK-8591, used both as part of HIV treatment and as a long-acting PrEP implant.
  • New data on the effectiveness of the dapivirine vaginal ring for HIV prevention among women in southern Africa.

Community Consensus Statement on Access to HIV Treatment and its Use for Prevention

Together, we can make it happen

We can end HIV soon if people have equal access to HIV drugs as treatment and as PrEP, and have free choice over whether to take them.

Launched today, the Community Consensus Statement is a basic set of principles aimed at making sure that happens.

The Community Consensus Statement is a joint initiative of AVAC, EATG, MSMGF, GNP+, HIV i-Base, the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, ITPC and NAM/aidsmap
