Fundraise for NAM

Get inspired!

Are you planning on doing something sporty, something a little bit out of the ordinary, or planning the party of the year? Then why not turn it into a fundraiser in aid of NAM’s work?

Having said that, the best fundraising ideas are often the simplest ones, for example you could:

  • Take part in a sporting event and get everyone you know to sponsor you.
  • Arrange a quiz night at your local pub.
  • Kick a bad habit and ask people to donate in support.
  • Organise a summer BBQ (weather permitting!) in your garden and charge £5 a head.

Visit www.institute-of-fundraising.org.uk for a wealth of information for volunteer fundraisers about fun and easy ways to raise money, and how to make sure that you and those you are fundraising with are safe and acting within the law.

Still need inspiration?

Take a look below! NAM has been incredibly lucky to have had some amazing people raising funds for us in various weird and wonderful ways in the past and we are so grateful to every single person for their truly commendable efforts in helping us support people with HIV.

Unfortunately we haven't got photos of all the runs, cycles, cakes sales and imaginative events that our fearless fundraisers have put themselves through for us, but if you have fundraised for us in the past, please get in touch and send us some photos of you in action and we will get you on our hall of fame below!

Craig's marathon story

Craig got in touch with us to tell us he wanted to use his own place in the marathon to raise funds for NAM, we were of course absolutely delighted to have him on the NAM team! Craig works for Virgin Limited Edition and was part of a scheme to raise £1million for charities in the 2011 race, he chose to run for NAM as he wanted to support a charity that offered accurate and impartial information on HIV and AIDS to anyone that needed it, and was impressed with NAM's work.

Craig dreamt up and organised some exciting and original events to raise money, a sponsored treadmill competition being one of them, and raised an absolutely staggering amount of money for NAM along the way. Craig finished the race in an impressive 4 hours and 20 minutes, and we cannot thank him enough for all his hard work and commitment – thank you Craig!

NAM is such a great charity to educate and inform people throughout the world regarding HIV/AIDS; it was a great pleasure that I was able to raise money for such a worthwhile charity.

Janey's marathon story

Janey Sewell, who works as a staff nurse in a HIV/GUM clinic, bravely took up the challenge of running the gruelling 26.2 miles of the Virgin London Marathon for NAM on 17th April 2011. For the first time ever NAM had been assigned one place in the race, and Janey beat off stiff competition to claim it. Despite a bout of tendonitis hindering her training, and a slight mix up when she realised she had been training in kilometres instead of miles, Janey completed the race in an amazing time of 5 hours, 1 minute and 42 seconds, and raised a huge amount of money for NAM!

Janey popped in for tea and cake the week after the race and we were delighted to introduce her to the team and show her how the money she raised will make a real difference to the work we can achieve for people with HIV. We couldn't have asked for a more enthusiastic, dedicated and lovely person to run the marathon for us, thank you Janey!

I feel incredibly lucky and quite unique to have had the opportunity to run for a charity whose work changes the lives of so many people that are affected by HIV, and one that I continue to use as a source of information on a daily basis. Thank you NAM for the most incredible experience, one that I would not repeat for any other cause any time soon, it was amazing.

Craig's cycle from London to Vienna

Keen cyclist Craig got in touch with us to tell us that, for his summer holiday, he was planning a gruelling cycle from London to Vienna and wanted to raise money for NAM along the way, we couldn't believe it!

Craig set off on his 21 day journey with nothing but a small backpack and his own thoughts to keep him company. Cycling over 100 miles a day he covered a staggering 2200 miles and raised an incredible £1866 for NAM!

It was a truly amazing experience, and something I'd wanted to do for a long time. I was glad to be able to help such a worthy charity like NAM along the way, it made all the cold, cramp and saddle sore seem worth it! Craig, London.

Take part in a triathlon

Three of NAM’s bravest staff, Tom, Kieran and Caspar, teamed up to take part in the London Triathlon Team Relay. Each man completed one stage of the full Olympic distance Triathlon around London’s Victoria Docks.

Having completed the 40k bike ride, 10k run and 1500k swim, the triumphant trio sprinted across the finishing line together as the timer clicked to 2 hours 47 minutes (and 24 seconds). NAM secured their proud place as 224th out of 406 teams, and raised vital funds to continue NAM's work helping people with HIV – what an effort!

It was great to get a team of NAM staff together to get involved in the Triathlon, it was a brilliant day! The atmosphere was incredible and the fact that so many supporters turned out to cheer us on really helped – it’s a great feeling to be part of a big event that is raising money to help others. Kieran, cyclist

Get involved in Walk for Life

On a beautiful sunny day in June 2009, NAM staff and supporters dusted off their trainers and got involved in Europe's largest sponsored walk to support those affected by HIV and AIDS – the Crusaid Walk for Life.

Despite the early morning thunder, lightning and torrential rain, by the time the 10k walk kicked off the sun was shining, the sky was blue and over 2300 people were walking through the heart of London to raise funds and awareness. It was a fantastic day, enjoyed by all, and was made all the better as it raised vital funds for NAM and Crusaid.

Having worked with NAM before, it was a great opportunity to join them on the Walk for Life – a perfect way to help others who may be going through or facing some of the difficulties I have witnessed. I totally recommend it! Jason, DV8 Soho, and Diesel the dog.

Raising money online

NAM has a page on online fundraising site JustGiving. It's really easy to set up your own page on JustGiving. The site allows you to personalise your page with photos, videos and messages to your supporters. What's more, your page will have a unique address: www.justgiving.com/yourpage, which you can send to everyone and let them know they can visit your page, make a donation and leave messages.

You can rest assured that JustGiving transfers any money raised straight over to NAM.

To make a JustGiving page simply click on the logo on the left. Once there choose 'Fundraise for us' then you'll be asked to create an account. If you need some inspiration for your page, take a look at the page Craig created when he cycled from London to Vienna.

Community Consensus Statement on Access to HIV Treatment and its Use for Prevention

Together, we can make it happen

We can end HIV soon if people have equal access to HIV drugs as treatment and as PrEP, and have free choice over whether to take them.

Launched today, the Community Consensus Statement is a basic set of principles aimed at making sure that happens.

The Community Consensus Statement is a joint initiative of AVAC, EATG, MSMGF, GNP+, HIV i-Base, the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, ITPC and NAM/aidsmap
